Greetings From Chautauqua!

It’s so gorgeous here!

Mom and I did our new lecture, “Beyond The Binding” today in gorgeous, stunning Chautauqua. Our host, Judy Fenton, made us feel super welcome and the crowd was great — around 500 people this morning! The crowd seemed happy — they were a great audience — and we had a blast doing the talk. I gotta say, it’s a great lecture. Lots of fun, tons of stunning quilts, lots of “laffs.”

Tomorrow morning Mom will do her solo lecture, “Why We Quilt” and then I give my “The Future of Quilting Is Bright” lecture in the afternoon. I’ve had a PowerPoint failure, so I’m up trying to remedy that, but blogging is way more fun.

Above is a picture of me and Mam at the lovely Le Fleur restaurant on Friday evening. If you’re ever around Chautauqua, please visit Le Fleur. The food was incredible — I had John Dory fish, Mom had a filet — and everything was absolutely divine. All the ladies get a long-stemmed rose when they leave. Like, all the time, you get a rose if you’re a gal, not just on Valentine’s Day or anything. It was almost cheesy…but not. I loved it.

Thanks, Chautauqua!!

I attended your talk today on The Future of Quilting is Bright. Thank you so much, it was wonderful. I am so happy you loved Chautauqua Institution as much as we locals do and that you were given the royal treatment at Le Fleur! Best of health in the future to you, Mary.

At your talk Sunday morning someone asked about selling quilts. Here is a link to a website for Canadians and Americans to sell online: http://www.quiltsforsale.ca/ FABULOUS weekend. Thanks for sharing. You and Mary are truly inspirational.

Looks like you are having a great time with Mom! Wish I lived in the area so I could attend your lectures.
I’m looking forward to the next issue of Quilty magazine very soon!
I’ve been an avid reader of F&P Love of Quilting for years!

Mary,

Just a note to let you know how much I enjoyed your lecture at Chautauqua on Sunday. Very informative and entertaining!!

I just finished reading Quilty from cover to cover. I have been quilting for over 25 years and still picked up a few tips. It’s a great magazine! I did have a little trouble reading it though. It seems the font is both smaller and lighter as compared to Love of Quilting. Even though I am a senior citizen and I am an experienced quilter, I would love to subscribe to Quilty. Will the font always be this small and this light? Even if one of these issues changed, it would be so much easier for us old gals to read!

Wishing you much success with your new adventures in the quilting world!! You and your mom were great additions to the Quilting Around Chautauqua this year.

Were you at Chautauqua Lake NY? I grew up spending my summers at the lake and going to Chautauqua Institute. I hope you have a lovely time…It is my favorite place in the world. I wish I could have been there.

So glad that you were at Chautauqua. Your presentations were a great addition to the show with a little younger perspective. As a vendor in the next building we were swamped by the large crowd as they left your presentations. What a beautiful location for a quilt show, too.

I grew up near Chautauqua Lake in Southwestern NY. I loved going to Chautauqua Institute for concerts. It’s so beautiful there! A quilting retreat sounds just wonderful!
