HOLY CATS! Quilty’s on sale, y’all!

It’s official. And we are all freaking out in a very good way:

QUILTY MAGAZINE IS ON SALE EVERYWHERE! OFFICIALLY RIGHT NOW!

May 15th. It’s a date I’ve had in my lil’ noggin for a long time. Written in pen on my planner — I still use a paper planner because I have to, for my brainmeats — is the note “Quilty magazine on sale today!” in red. And now we’re here.

You can get the magazine here. You can get it at Barnes & Noble, at newsstands at places like Target and the airport (I think), at your quilt shops hopefully, and  anywhere quality quilting magazines are sold. How cool is that?

Pretty cool.

Enjoy, everyone. We’ve gotten crazy good feedback so far. All those nights I was up late, coloring the hand-drawn doodles and re-proofing the third article for the 9,000th time? Totally worth it. The projects are so good. The articles turned out great. The art direction rocks. It’s a good magazine. I believe that.

Go ahead: pick up a copy. I am sure — very, very sure — you will like it.

It’s great to have a magazine that is directed to us beginners! Quilting is such a complex art that I’m sure even seasoned quilters will find something in there for them too! Keep up the good work!

Love this, finally a magazine for the beginner. This has great instructions and even some challenging patterns. I would love for it to be a monthly or bimonthly

I can’t wait to find my copy! I’m closer to your mother’s age, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still willing to learn and put a more modern spin on my quilting. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in this journey, it’s that there’s not only ONE way to do things. Quilting is a dynamic art form – always evolving and changing. It’s wonderful to see that younger quilters are on the scene!

Got mine in the mail today…wooo hoooo!

Got this fresh new magazine yesterday and I really like.
But, you knew there was a but, the print in the instructions is so light it makes it difficult for senior eyes. Is it possible to print it darker?
Can’t wait to see your nest one!

Love, love, love the new magazine! I read it cover to cover. Especially liked the article about the quilt paintings on the barns. I’ve been lucky enough to see several of them in person when I was last in Iowa. Can’t wait for the next issue!

I just (like this week) started quilting and stumbled upon your website and videos. They are really helpful and enjoyable. Now, the magazine-seriously, I think I am hooked!

14 mfons { 05.20.12 at 1:08 pm }

That is totes fantastic, Kdun! We’re here to help — welcome to quilting. :) Mary

Could not wait for the magazine to be in stores and had mine delivered by mail…….really like everything about it. Keep up the good work. I have delayed renewing one of the “competitor’s” magazines waiting to subscribe to yours.

Do you know where I can find the magazine in Canada?!

I picked up a copy yesterday at Barnes & Noble. I’d read a review that said the magazine mirrors Mary’s perky attitude and thought now that’s a magazine I want to read. The magazine does not disappoint. It is fresh and upbeat. Like another reader, I am not a beginning quilter, but wish I’d had access to this magazine when I was. I am inspired by the projects. Thanks for the t-shirt quilt project. I have always wondered how to quilt one. The instructions are detailed and easy to follow, always a plus in my book. Make the print a little darker and easier to read and you’ll have me as a reader for life. I can’t wait for the next edition. How do I subscribe?

This magazine is fabulous! I have a question, however. After reading Quilty, I went out and bought the half and a quarter ruler to make the lovely Pink Waves quilt on pg 14. The directions say to cut 2.5″ strips and cut 2.5″ half-square triangles. The ruler instructions say to cut 3″ strips for 2.5″ finished size. Which is correct? Or am I just not understanding how to do this? Please tell me it’s not the latter :)

Found this at Kmart and really like it. I have quilted for years but like this approach. The art background is an asset. Agree on the pale print – hard for senior eyes to read. Can’t wait for the next issue.

I’ve been looking for your magazine in our local stores and cannot find it. where is it sold?

23 Vicki { 06.03.12 at 2:10 pm }

I am thrilled with your magazine! I have been quilting for awhile and i learned so much! I also longarm and the border article was great! I love the modern look and the internet base for your work. Thanks!

Great magazine. Fun, funky,easy to understand, great pictures and most of all – inspirational! The cover is great. I started quilting 3 years ago at the ripe old age of 59 and your magazine is the first one I can say I have read cover to cover! Love watching you and your Mom on PBS! Can’t wait for the next issue!

Picked up Quilty at my local shop, love it!!!! I’ve scanned this magazine, now I’m going page by page – so far loving the piece on Longarmer – great tips. Thanks for another great magazine.

I was in the grocery store and found Quilty, of course I bought it :-) Love all of the magazines. When I brought it home and looked through it I knew it was the perfect magazine for my friend, who is just learning how to quilt. Is this going to be something that we can buy a yearly subscription? I think it would be the perfect gift for friends.

I just got my copy and it’s great!! Just wanted to know if we can get a subscription to it? Keep up the great job and alot of prayers for are with you for a super fast recovery!!

I would like to know is there chart to gauge at what level of quilting one might be?

31 Brian (Big B) { 06.15.12 at 5:25 pm }

So I started quilting 2 years ago and have yet to finish a quilt but your new magazine has totally inspired me to Get going” and get some quilts done! I love scrap quilts and “checkers” on the cover made the magazine “jump” into my cart! I love scrap quilts because of how beautiful they can be. Quilts were made to be a utilitarian item and our grandmas would never have made them to hang on a wall! They used them! I like the ease of machine piecing but would never machine quilt one of my quilts. Could you maybe do an article on hand tying and hand quilting? Would love to see that! Also maybe some instructions on using the backing to bind your quilt? Like in the “old” days?
Keep up the OUTSTANDING work and look forward to seeing the next issue of Quilty!

32 Carol { 06.17.12 at 2:36 pm }

Love the magazine, but could you print the text in a bolder font? It’s hard to read.

33 mfons { 06.19.12 at 7:09 pm }

Thanks for your feedback, Carol. We are dedicated to improving Quilty, and the next issues should be easier on the eyes. :)

Thank you for an awesome magazine! I love the hints and “scribble” comments. I like so many others would love to subscribe to this magazine! It is well written and gives off a young vibe that I think my daughters would enjoy! Thanks again for sharing your talents! I’m glad you are on the road to recovery. Best wishes!

I picked up my copy at Hobby Lobby. Great magazine, love the “homieness” and tips on each project. Although I’ve been quilting for 15-16 years now I still feel like I’m “practicing” and like the easy to understand tips and finished projects that look great!
I belong to a casual quilt group that meets once a month with each sewing on their own thing but WHAT a great place to pick up ideas! It is such a learning experience for all of us.
Looking forward to the Fall magazine.

I happened upon this magazine at Books-a-Million the other day and I can not say enough good stuff about it! It is exactly what I was looking for – A fun filled quilting magazine with a balance of articles, patterns, and tips/techniques. I am so grateful that I found your “maiden-voyage issue” and I can’t wait to read many more in the future! Thanks for all your hard work and passion for quilting! :)

LOVE Quilty – as much as Mom’s “Love of Quilting” – I’m her age BTW
Enjoy the video episodes too. You are a breath of fresh quilting air!
